One
of the growers who has primarily fathered the favourable evolution
in quality of the wines produced in Mallorca, is Miquel Oliver,
owner of the winery Son Caló in Petra. The saga of the
Oliver family, replete with tenacity and professionalism, has
raised them to an outstanding position atop of the podium of
vitiviniculture on the Island.

Miquel Oliver manages
a company founded in 1912 by his grandfather, Melchor Oliver,
which he has endowed with a name a synonym of prestige, thanks
to the successful development of fine quality wines: Mont Ferrutx,
Ses Ferritges, Celler Son Caló Blanc de Blancs, Celler
Son Caló Rosat, Gran Muscat Miquel Oliver, Aia, Celler
Son Caló Negre Jove, Muscat Miquel Oliver, Gran Chardonnay
Miquel Oliver, Petit Chardonnay Miquel Oliver...

The continuity
of Miquel Oliver and therefore of the Oliver family as figureheads
of the winery is already assured since both his daughter Pilar
and his son-in-law Jaume, shave in the production process and
affront their work with much enthusiasm and interest, thanks
to the advice and encouragement given by Miquel.

10 hectares of
vineyards owned by the family situated in "Ses Ferritges",
Petra, produce the wines and are complemented by the purchase
of further grapes from viticulturists in the area with guarantee
of origin known as the "Pla i Llevant" , Mallorca.
Their innovative spirit has led them to experiment with numerous
varieties, of both indigenous and foreign origin: Prensal, Macabeo,
Tempranillo, Callet, Fogoneu, Manto Negro, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon,
Merlot, Moscatel de Frontignan, Moscatel Alexandria, Chardonnay......All
of which benefit from the excellent microclimate of the area.

The family owns
450 casks of American and French oak to be found in two wine
cellars: the first of w hich
is semi-subterranean and constructed in the year 1868, flanked
by wide stone columns which support robust vaults. The second,
of more recent construction, is entirely subterranean.

Encouraged by the
success enjoyed so far by the wines from their land, the Oliver
family faces the future filled with optimism. Enamoured by innovation,
they plan to grow in quality more than in quantity and to remain
true to their family and company motto: "Our work is
our passion".
